Nairobi is the capital city of Kenya. It is a major entry point to most tourists visiting the county. Nairobi offers quite a lot of activities and adventure for all tourist visiting the city as well as locals. The city is only one in the world that has a national park where tourist can enjoy a game drive and still have a chance to enjoy the city life. Right from the entry at the Jomo Kenyatta International airport, one is treated to the sunny and lovely scenic views of Mombasa road and her busy life style.

Day One

Arrive at Jomo Kenyatta International Airport and check in to any hotel, hostel, home stay, self catering apartment or any other type of accommodation that may have been booked.

Have breakfast or lunch at any of the ideal locations according to your travel agent. Nairobi offers a variety of hotels, cafes and local restaurants where you can enjoy a freshly cooked local meal. This includes The Java café, a Savannah range of restaurants that offers simple meals and lovely Kenyan tea and coffee.

For those that love walking, a walk around the city will have you enjoy an afternoon of sightseeing. The city is home to historic monuments, building and museums. This includes The National Archives, Macmillan library, The Nairobi Gallery and The Kenyatta International Conference Centre. You can also shop at the city market for your Kenyan souvenirs or on the weekend enjoy shopping at the Maasai Market curio market.

Night life in Nairobi is very vibrant. If you’re the type who enjoys clubbing, the city has quite a huge array of night clubs where you can enjoy a cold beer (Tusker is the Kenyan local beer) as well other drinks and cocktails along with great music.

Day Two

The Karen Circuit

  • An early morning game drive will allow you a chance to see the big fives (lion, leopard, rhino, elephant and Cape buffalo) before they can hibernate due to the hot sun.
  • Have breakfast at the Karen Blixen, and there after enjoy a visit to the Karen Blixen Museum.
  • Visit the Giraffe centre; enjoy a chance to feed the Rothschild giraffe.
  • Visit the Sheldrick elephant orphanage that is dedicated to protecting elephants and black rhino.
  • A visit to the Oloolua Forest, and if possible camp in the forest; this a walking forest run by the National Museums of Kenya.
  • A visit to the Bomas of Kenya will have you enjoying a few cultural dances and give you a chance to learn more about the Kenyan tribes and cultures.

Day Three

This is your last day in Nairobi, we propose that you take it easy.

Visit the Karura Forest or Arboretum, home to indigenous trees, a beautiful atmosphere, a waterfall and where Mau Mau (freedom fighters) hid out in caves; an ideal walking forest plus beautiful picnic sites.

A shopping spree would be great. Nairobi offers a good shopping experience. There are several malls located a few minutes drive away from the city; there’s also a village market, which has several shops in Westlands, as well around the city centre.

Finally, while visiting Nairobi ensure you are safe. Most shops and streets are relatively safe however it’s always important to learn to trust your instincts, especially in the event that you visit the back streets and downtown Nairobi.
